Waste Assets Management Corporation
The Waste Assets Management Corporation (WAM Corporation) is a statutory corporation constituted under the Waste Recycling and Processing Corporation (Authorised Transaction) Act 2010 and is an agency of the Department of Finance and Services.
WAM Corporation was established to own and operate several landfill sites that were formerly owned by WSN Environmental Solutions (WSN) following the sale of WSN to the private sector on 31 January 2011. WAM Corporation is responsible for the efficient and sustainable management of two operational landfills, Eastern Creek Waste Management Centre and Belrose Waste Management Centre, along with the rehabilitation and aftercare of several closed landfills across the Sydney metropolitan region, on behalf of the people of NSW.
Prior to 31 January 2011, WSN was a state-owned corporation established under the Waste Recycling and Processing Corporation Act 2001. WSN was preceded by Waste Service NSW and the Metropolitan Waste Disposal Authority (MWDA) established in 1971 under the Waste Disposal Act 1970.
